Results of our Photograph Competition
Frome Canoe Club won the first prize of £50 in our competition, which was held as part of the Volunteers' Week celebrations. Voluntary groups were asked to submit pictures illustrating the work of volunteers in their groups and to explain in less than 30 words what people can get from volunteering for them. The Canoe Club's photograph, which shows a volunteer crouching on a rock in the river waiting to help young canoeists if they get into difficulties, was judged to illustrate an unusual type of volunteering in a fun way.
The second prize went to the Somerset Youth Volunteering Network based in Glastonbury. They submitted photographs of a volunteer making a huge mess with candy floss and two young volunteers looking thoughtful in cold water gear.
FROGS (Frome Recreation and Open Ground Supporters) won the third prize for their photographs. One of these showed two serious looking small children helping to clear the undergrowth, illustrating that people of all ages can volunteer.
Highly commended certificates were given to The Mount Community Association Gardeners for the way their photographs showed families working in their scheme and to the Atmospherics Trust for the beauty of their pictures.
The standard of the entries was very high and Mendip Community Support would like to thank everyone who submitted entries, all of which showed how much people can get out of volunteering.
