Latest Grants Total in Mendip
Wanstrow village's grant of £430,000 from the Big Lottery to rebuild the village hall was easily the largest amount, but two other groups, Glastonbury FM Community Radio and Count Me In, which organises activities for people with learning disabilities, each had grants of nearly £10,000 from Awards for All. The Paddington Farm Trust also got over £9,000.
In 2009, with our help, 16 groups in the Mendip area have had Grassroots grants from Somerset Community Foundation, which have ranged from £5,000 for Frome Collegians football club to £890 set up costs for the Stoke St Michael Baby and Toddler group. Other organisations to benefit from this grant include Carers UK, Mendip Vale workshops for people with mental health problems, Mells Village shop and Pilton Playgroup.
Mendip Housing have awarded several community grants in Frome this year and we have helped some groups apply to them, including the Key Centre, which got funding towards their new wooden hut.( See the photo below).
Some grants came from other sources. For example PACE, an organisation for adults with physical disabilities, were given a grant from Frome Lottery towards a handbook they are compiling of services and facilities for disabled people in the Frome area and Friends of the River Frome got some money from Wessex Water for improvements to the river bank.
If your group needs funding, we are here to help with deciding which funding to go for, writing the application forms, finding referees and any other help you might need.
